Workshop presented by ReACH of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health with practical tips for parents, part of the Philly Loves Families program.
Ways of Caring for Yourself as a Parent is happening at the Walnut Street West Library on Thursday, October 22, at 3 PM. It's a workshop presented by the Division of Reproductive, Adolescent, and Child Health (ReACH) of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and the focus is exactly what the title says: easy, practical tips for parents on how to take care of themselves while they're taking care of everyone else. The session is aimed at adults and young adults, so it's open to parents across different stages of the journey.
To get a sense of who's behind it, ReACH runs Philly Loves Families, a program whose mission is to empower Philadelphia women, birthing people, teens, and children to create and live healthy lives. They offer resources and support across every stage of parenting, and this workshop is one piece of that. The broader program includes doula support, breastfeeding and chestfeeding resources, safe sleep guidance, a Youth Care Team, and postpartum depression resources—the kind of practical, hands-on help that can be hard to track down on your own.
If you're a parent in the city, you know how easy it is to let your own well-being slide to the bottom of the to-do list. This session is meant to change that, giving you a few concrete ways to carve out space for yourself without feeling like you're neglecting the rest of your life. It's a good chance to hear from people who understand the juggle and to walk away with a few things you can actually use.
