The 25th annual WMGK Turkey Drop where the radio station broadcasts live as Philadelphians donate frozen turkeys for families in need.
WMGK is back with its annual Turkey Drop on Thanksgiving morning, Wednesday, November 24, 2026, outside the Kimmel Center on Broad Street. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the tradition, and the format is the same as it's always been: the station's air staff broadcasts live from the front of the building and collects frozen turkeys and monetary donations for CityTeam Philadelphia, which distributes them to individuals and families in need. It's a free event, and it runs from 6 AM to 12 PM.
If you're planning to drop off, there are two things to keep in mind. First, they only take turkeys—no other food items are accepted. Second, if you're donating money, make the check out to CityTeam Philadelphia. The broadcast itself is part of the morning's draw, so you can hear the WMGK crew live while you drop off your contribution.
The Turkey Drop is one piece of a larger holiday season for Ensemble Arts Philly. That same week, the organization returns to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the 6ABC Dunkin' Thanksgiving Day Parade, which features performances by PHILADANCO! and The Philadelphia Orchestra. It's a busy stretch for the arts in the city, and the Turkey Drop is the part that asks for your help.

There's a bit of local history behind the venue, too. The Kimmel Center has been Philadelphia's home for performance and community gathering since December 2001, and it turns 25 that same month, having drawn more than 10 million people to the arts since it opened. Ensemble Arts Philly president and CEO Ryan Fleur describes the organization's holiday programming as a demonstration of the power of participation and belonging, and this is the most direct way to participate: show up with a turkey on Thanksgiving morning. The drop runs from 6 AM to 12 PM on November 24, and it's free to attend.
