Weekend intensive for tango beginners covering the basics of movement and communication, with everyone trying both roles.
Philadelphia Argentine Tango School is hosting a Two-Day Beginner Intensive on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6, from 2 PM to 4 PM each day. It's exactly what the name says: a weekend designed to get you moving with tango without needing any prior experience. Meredith Klein and Ignacio Ondartz are the ones leading it, and the whole thing is built for people who have never stepped foot on a dance floor.
The workshop covers the basics of tango movement and communication, and it's set up so that everyone tries both roles. That's one of the better things about the format—you'll spend time leading and following, so you get a feel for how the dance works from both sides of the embrace. You don't need a partner to join, either; the school handles the pairing, so you can show up on your own and still get through the full two days.
Because it's a beginner intensive, the atmosphere is kept friendly and low-pressure. The goal is to walk away with a solid handle on the fundamentals rather than rushing through a long list of steps. It's a good way to jump-start tango over a single weekend instead of stretching it out over weeks of separate classes, and since it's a closed group, you'll be learning alongside other beginners rather than jumping into a room where everyone already knows the ropes.

One practical thing to keep in mind: you're asked to bring socks or shoes with smooth soles, which makes it easier to pivot and glide across the floor. The full two-day intensive is $80, or you can drop in for a single day for $50. Both sessions run from 2 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School.
