Art build at Spiral Q in preparation for the Peoplehood Parade on November 7th.
Spiral Q is hosting a Transit Art Build over three separate dates this fall, starting Tuesday, October 20, at 5 PM. The sessions continue on Tuesday, October 27, at 5 PM and Tuesday, November 3, at 3 PM, all at Spiral Q's studio and warehouse at 4247 W. Stiles St. in West Philly. The whole thing is a lead-up to the Peoplehood Parade on November 7, so if you've been wanting to get involved in the city's parade culture, this is a way to do it with your hands.
Since the build is spread across three dates, you don't have to commit to all of them—you can drop in for one or come back for a few. The work is all in preparation for the parade on November 7, so the sessions get closer to the big day as they go. If you're coming on the 20th, you've got plenty of room to see how the project grows; if you wait until the 3rd, you're in the home stretch.
Getting to the studio is pretty straightforward if you're using transit. The 64 bus and the G trolley/bus are both a two-minute walk away, and the 40 bus is four minutes. The T1 trolley is nine minutes and the 38 bus is eleven. If you're driving, street parking is usually available on Belmont Avenue or on Stiles near Belmont—just avoid parking right in front of the neighbors' houses. There's an RSVP available if you want to let them know you're coming.
