Concert by The National Reserve, an American rock and soul band from Brooklyn, at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
The National Reserve play the Philadelphia Navy Yard on Thursday, October 15. They're a Brooklyn-based americana group founded and fronted by singer-guitarist Sean Walsh, and this is a free show.
For nearly half a decade, the band spent their Friday nights playing Brooklyn bars, a stretch that put them in front of a regular crowd long before they recorded. Their 2018 Ramseur Records release, Motel La Grange, pulled together a raucous collection of gutbucket R&B, New Orleans funk, late-night soul, and boozy rock 'n' rollโthe kind of sound that drew comparisons to the golden age of 1970s rock. It's a record that leans into the looser, sweatier side of the roots tradition rather than the polished end.
The lineup on stage is a full band: Sean Walsh on vocals and guitar; Henry Plotnick, Jim Parker, and Matthew Stoulil on bass; and Brian Geltner on drums and vocals. With three bass players in the mix, there's a heavy low end to the group, and Geltner adds a second voice to the front.
