The Damned play Union Transfer on their Final Damnation 50 tour, marking their 50th anniversary, with support from Flamin' Groovies and The Courettes.
The Damned play Union Transfer on Saturday, October 24, at 7 PM. They're touring with the Flamin' Groovies and The Courettes opening, so it's a full bill of punk and garage rock rather than just one band on stage.
If you're not familiar with them, The Damned formed in London in 1976 and were one of the first bands to emerge from the British punk scene. They've put out 11 studio albums and a handful of UK chart singles since then, and they're still playing. A good part of their sound comes from the contrast between their dark lyrics and frontman David Vanian's rich baritone, a combination that helped push them to the forefront of goth rock.
The Philadelphia date is part of the Final Damnation 50 tour, a run of shows marking the band's 50th anniversary. They're billing it as a high-energy night of punk and garage rock history, and with the Flamin' Groovies and The Courettes on the bill, the whole evening stays in that same territory. The Groovies bring their own long history of garage rock to the mix, and The Courettes round out the lineup, so the punk and garage thread runs through all three acts.
