Free birthday party for the Tacony LAB Community Arts Center with cake, refreshments and a make-and-take art activity.
Tacony LAB Community Arts Center is celebrating its ninth birthday on Friday, October 23, with cake, refreshments and a make-and-take art activity. The party runs from 6 PM to 8 PM at 6918 Torresdale Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, and it's free to attend.
For those who haven't spent much time there, Tacony LAB is a community arts center on Torresdale Avenue. It's one of the spaces Mural Arts uses to bring art into the neighborhood, and it's built around the idea of art as a tool for social change, community engagement and creative expression. They keep free art-making resources and experiences open to the public, designed to bring people together and spark some imagination. The birthday party fits right into that—cake and refreshments to share, and a make-and-take project you can work on and bring home.
The celebration also falls within Mural Arts Month, the citywide celebration of free, accessible public art organized by Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program. The program maintains more than 4,000 murals across the city, and throughout the month they fill the calendar with neighborhood art crawls, processional performance art, gallery exhibitions, artist talks and the annual Mural Arts Fest at Love Park. This party is one of the many free things happening around town as part of that.
