Free neighborhood trunk-or-treat with decorated car trunks, games, a bouncy house, pumpkins, food and music at Star of Hope Baptist Church.
Star of Hope Baptist Church is hosting its annual Community Trunk or Treat this Sunday, October 25, from 12 PM to 3:30 PM at 7200 Keystone St in Philadelphia. It's a free neighborhood gathering built around a simple idea: a line of decorated car trunks from which children collect candy. Costumes are encouraged, and the afternoon is filled with games, a bouncy house, pumpkins, food and music, plus a 360 video and prizes for the best-decorated trunks.
If you've never been to a Trunk or Treat, it's basically a twist on the usual Halloween route. Instead of walking from house to house, you move along a row of cars, each with its trunk open and decorated as a little scene. The kids go from trunk to trunk, filling their bags with candy as they go. It's a more contained way to do the holiday, and the prizes for the best-decorated trunks mean the people running it usually put some real effort into the themes.
Beyond the candy, there's enough going on to make a whole afternoon of it. The bouncy house and games are there for the kids to burn off energy between treats, and the food and music keep things lively. The 360 video is a nice addition for capturing the costumes, and the pumpkins tie the whole thing together. It's the kind of event that works just as well if you're coming with a group of friends as it does if you're just bringing your own kids.
