A multimedia concert celebrating 35 years of Sonic the Hedgehog, featuring a live ensemble of musicians, rock players, electronics and vocalists with on-screen scenes from the games.
Sonic Live in Concert comes to the Miller Theater on Thursday, March 18, 2027, at 7 PM. Presented by Ensemble Arts Philly, the show marks 35 years of Sonic the Hedgehog, one of the most recognized video game franchises in the world. It's built as a multimedia experience that runs through the series' history, pairing a live ensemble of musicians, rock players, electronics, and vocalists with on-screen scenes from the games.
The program spans the franchise's entire run, with arrangements reaching back to the original Sega Genesis titles and forward to the newest entries. You'll hear instrumental renditions of fan favorites, and there are musical Easter eggs woven in along the way. Much of the evening honors the creative legacy of composers Jun Senoue and Tomoya Ohtani, whose work has defined Sonic's sound across generations.
Because it's a live ensemble rather than a recording, the music is played in the room, not just piped in. The rock players and electronics bring the energy of the games to the stage, and the vocalists add a human element to the melodies. With the game scenes running on screen, the music stays tied to the visuals it was written for.
