Small Brown Bike, marking the 25th anniversary of 'Dead Reckoning' and the band's 30th, with special guests The Casket Lottery.
Small Brown Bike play Johnny Brenda's on Thursday, November 12, with The Casket Lottery as special guests. It's a double bill that brings together two bands with long histories in the indie and emo scenes, both coming off recent records.
Small Brown Bike formed in Michigan in 1996 and put out four full-length albums, along with EPs and singles. Their 2000 sophomore record, Dead Reckoning, earned international acclaim and a five-star review from Kerrang, which praised its "unrivaled depth of emotion." They toured with Hot Water Music, Cursive, Sparta, and Cave In, and released The River Bed on Lookout! Records in 2003. After reuniting in 2006 and returning officially in 2009, they recorded Fell & Found in 2011 with producer J Robbins—an album AV Club called one of the best purveyors of the sound.
This tour is a bit of a milestone for them. Founding member Travis Dopp died in 2023 after a three-year battle with cancer, and the remaining members—Mike Reed, Ben Reed, and Dan Jaquint—are on the road to mark the 25th anniversary of Dead Reckoning and the band's 30th anniversary. The Casket Lottery join them as special guests, bringing their own recent work into the mix: their 2024 album Feel The Teeth grapples with internal conflict and existential fatigue.
