Weekly Tuesday evening sewing social for crocheters, knitters, sewers, quilters and other fabric crafters to share and learn at the Donatucci Library.
Sew What?! Evening Sewcial is back at the Thomas F. Donatucci, Sr. Library on Tuesday, October 20, from 4 PM to 6 PM. It's part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's arts-and-crafts programming, and the sessions run every Tuesday afternoon.
The setup is simple: you bring whatever you're working on—crochet, knitting, sewing, embroidery, quilting, felting, and more—and you sew alongside other fabric crafters. It's as much about the company as the craft, a place to share what you're making, collaborate, and pick up new tricks from the people around you. If you're stuck on a stitch or want to try something new, library staff are on hand to help you work through it.
The venue itself has some history worth knowing. The Donatucci Branch, which most people around here called the Passyunk Branch until 2004, has been a South Philly institution since 1914. It's one of the 25 libraries funded by Andrew Carnegie, and the building still holds murals by Calvin Jones. It was renamed on April 23, 2004, in honor of a resident whose community service spanned from the 1930s until his death in 1970.

If the evening slot doesn't work for you, there's a daytime version too: the Sew What?! Afternoon Sewcial-Needle Crafts runs at the Art Department of the Parkway Central Library. For this one, though, you'll find it at Thomas F. Donatucci, Sr. Library, 1935 West Shunk Street, Philadelphia, PA 19145—right at 20th and Shunk Streets—on Tuesday, October 20, from 4 PM to 6 PM.
