Free Halloween-themed guided photoshoot and other photography and filmmaking workshops from Nikon's nationwide photography tour, with advance registration.
Nikon is bringing its nationwide photography tour to Philadelphia from Friday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 1, with three separate sessions spread across two locations. The whole thing is free, though you'll need to register in advance to get a spot. It's part of a larger tour Nikon is running across the country, designed to get hands-on photography and filmmaking instruction in front of people and let them try out the company's cameras and lenses.
Friday kicks things off at Unique Photo (28 S. 2nd St. in Old City) with a Halloween-themed guided photoshoot led by Rick Southers. The shoot takes place in a speakeasy tucked beneath the camera store, so it's a good excuse to get some moody, atmospheric shots right before the holiday. If you've been wanting to work on your portraits or just get some practice in a controlled setting, this is a solid place to start.
Saturday shifts the focus to filmmaking and moves out to Maple Acres Farm Market (2656 Narcissa Road in Plymouth Meeting). The workshop there is all about video, so it's a different animal than the Friday shoot. If you're more interested in moving images than stills, that's the one to aim for. Then on Sunday, the tour heads back into the city to Unique Photo for a workshop focused on photography lenses—the kind of session where you can actually get a handle on how different glass changes the look of a shot.

Between the three, you've got a Halloween photoshoot in Old City, a filmmaking workshop at a farm market in Plymouth Meeting, and a lens workshop back at Unique Photo. All three are free, but they do require advance registration, so you'll want to sign up early rather than waiting until the last minute.
