Funk and rock concert with Natalie Brooke and Matt Jalbert Band at MilkBoy.
Natalie Brooke and the Matt Jalbert Band play MilkBoy on Thursday, October 29, bringing together two acts with very different ways of approaching the keys and the guitar. Brooke is a funk and rock keys player from the Baltimore area who fronts a four-piece band on keys, keytar, and vocals, backed by drummer Nathan Shulkin, bassist Nester, and guitarist Luke Walker. Her sound has been described as a mashup of Rick James and Rush—the danceable groove of the former meeting the progressive, technical lean of the latter.
Sharing the bill is Matt Jalbert, a founding member, guitarist, and songwriter for the progressive band TAUK. Jalbert is known for a blend of rock energy and jazz finesse, so the night puts two musicians who lean into the more complex, instrumental side of their genres on the same stage. Between Brooke's keys-forward funk and Jalbert's jazz-inflected rock, there's a good amount of ground to cover in one evening.
