Free workshop at the Roxborough Library to make a miniature replica of your favourite book as a keychain, with all supplies provided.
Roxborough Library is hosting a Mini Book Keychains workshop on Saturday, October 24, at 11 AM. The session is run by the Roxborough Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the whole point is to make a miniature replica of your favorite book to hang from a bag or backpack. All the supplies are provided, so you just need to show up with a title in mind. It's open to anyone over 12, which makes it an easy one to do with a younger sibling or a friend.
The branch itself sits at 6245 Ridge Avenue, at the corner of Ridge and Hermitage, and serves the Manayunk, Wissahickon, and Roxborough communities along that stretch of Ridge Avenue. The area's name goes back to 1690, when Andrew Robeson Sr. built a house near the Wissahickon Creek and called it Roxburgh after a region in Scotland. The current building opened in 1969, after the Manayunk Branch was sold that same year, and it was renovated in 1998 as part of the library system's "Changing Lives" campaign. Much of the branch's material continues to be bought by the foundation of the nearby William B. Stephens Library, which was established by the family of a wealthy Manayunk mill owner.
