Free masterclass led by a member of Ballets Jazz Montréal, teaching excerpts from the company's repertoire to intermediate to advanced dancers.
Ballets Jazz Montréal is bringing a masterclass to the Zellerbach Theatre at the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 24. It's a morning session, running from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, and it's open to intermediate and advanced dancers.
If you aren't familiar with the company, Ballets Jazz Montréal is a Canadian dance troupe known for work that often pulls from popular music—their show Dance Me, for instance, is built around the music of Leonard Cohen. This class is led by a member of the company, who'll be teaching excerpts from the company's current repertoire. So instead of a general technique class, you'll be working through actual choreography they're performing right now.
It's aimed at intermediate to advanced high school, university, post-graduate, and professional dancers, so it's a wide range—from students still in school to people already working in the field. If that fits where you're at, you'll want to come in comfortable dance attire. The session is an hour and a half, starting at 10 AM at the Zellerbach Theatre on the Penn campus.
