Concert by the indie rock duo L?STC, a Philadelphia area act of emo-folk, at the 23rd Street Armory.
L?STC play the 23rd Street Armory on Sunday, October 18, as part of the Philly Coffee Festival. The set is their only one that day, starting at 11:30 AM.
L?STC—which stands for Love? said the Commander—is a duo from the PhillyJersey area. The two behind it, Kate Hall and Chris Bishop, met on Craigslist in the winter of 2018. Since then, they've put out six EPs and several singles, and played hundreds of shows across the Northeast. This date is one of those live performances, and it falls on a Sunday morning.
They describe their sound as "maximal minimalism," which they use to make slow-burning emo-folk. It's a bit of a contradiction in terms—the "maximal" part suggests a lot of detail and texture, while the "minimalism" keeps things stripped back. The result is music that takes its time to unfold rather than rushing to a hook.

After those six EPs and the singles, they released their first full-length album, Cast Away, on July 24, 2024. The record has nine songs that draw on the experiences, triggers, and traumas of the last six years, so the material they're playing now comes from a pretty specific stretch of their lives. If you've followed them since the early EPs, Cast Away is the first time they've gathered those years into a single album.
Because this is part of the Philly Coffee Festival, it's a morning show rather than a late-night one. L?STC takes the stage at 11:30 AM at the 23rd Street Armory on Sunday, October 18.
