Drop-in afternoon of visual storytelling with collage and scrapbook materials to create a family history book, part of the library's Hyperlocal Heritage series.
Let's Art: Collage Your Family Story is happening at the Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library on Friday, October 23, from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. It's a drop-in afternoon of visual storytelling built around scissors, glue, photos and imagery, and it's open to everyone from first-timers to working artists.
The session is part of Let's Art!, a community art program at the Coleman Library where patrons have been making art together for over a year. It sits within the library's Hyperlocal Heritage series, a space to get creative with personal archives and make books, zines, scrapbooks and collages that put storytelling in people's own hands and leave something for future generations to remember their family story. The series is supported by the William Penn Foundation and the Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial.
On the day, collage and scrapbook materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything to get started. You're welcome to bring your own photographs, though, which is where the family story part comes in. The whole thing is a drop-in, so you can just show up and start working.
