Volunteer workday to plant native species, tend the Lemon Hill Trail and clean up the slopeside restoration project at Lemon Hill.
Lemon Hill Garden & Trail Days is happening at Lemon Hill Mansion on Saturday, October 17, from 10 AM to 12 PM. It's a volunteer workday, and the group meets outside the mansion on Lemon Hill Drive in Philadelphia. If you've spent any time walking the trails around the mansion, you know the slopes can be a bit of a struggle, and that's exactly where the work is focused.
The morning centers on the slopeside restoration project. The goal is to bring back native plants to the hillside, so you'll be putting native species in the ground and tending to the Lemon Hill Trail itself. There's also a litter cleanup as part of the day, so you'll be clearing out trash along the way. It's the kind of work that's easy to understand and satisfying to see finished by noon: planting, weeding, and picking up.
This is one of Love Your Park's regular volunteer workdays. They're a Philadelphia organization that brings residents together to clean, green, and celebrate the city's public green spaces, and their reach goes from small neighborhood parks to large watershed natural areas. This particular day is part of that ongoing effort, so it's not a one-off project but part of a longer commitment to the land around Lemon Hill.

On the practical side, they strongly encourage long sleeves and long pantsโit's outdoor work, and you'll be dealing with dirt and brush. You don't need to bring your own gear, though; tools and resources are provided on-site. Registration is available, so it's a good idea to sign up before you head out. The whole thing runs from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, October 17, meeting outside the mansion.
