Grammy Award-winning a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo returns with South African classics and gospel favorites, open to all ages.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo are returning to the Zellerbach Theatre at the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 7, 2027. It's their first Philadelphia date since 2024, when they played a sold-out show here, and they're coming back by overwhelming demand.
They're a Grammy Award-winning a cappella group from South Africa, widely called the undisputed kings of South African a cappella. Their set pulls from two different worlds: South African classics and gospel favorites, all sung with the vocal blend that's made them a global name. It's a vocal-only performance, so the harmony is the whole point.
There's a good bit of critical weight behind them, too. The Guardian described their singing as truly great and their harmony work as perfectly timed. The Chicago Tribune noted a warm-centered presence and harmonics that both soothe and offer hope for a more empathetic world. Between the two, they paint a picture of a group that's as much about the precision of the arrangement as they are about the feeling they leave you with.
