Chamber music concert featuring works by Anna Clyne, Ethel Smyth and Franz Schubert, including the US premiere of Clyne's 'Sirens'.
Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective plays the Perelman Theater on Wednesday, October 28, at 7:30 PM. They're a flexible ensemble of chamber musicians who describe themselves as joyful, kind, and passionate, and they talk about chamber music's power to bring people together and to unite musicians as equals. The group currently serves as the Associate Ensemble of London's Wigmore Hall, and The Times has called their performances exhilarating.
The program runs from the contemporary back to the 19th century. They open with Anna Clyne's Sirens for horn and string quintet, which gets its US premiere here. Then comes Ethel Smyth's Horn Trio in A Major, and they close with Franz Schubert's Quintet in A Major D. 667, better known as the Trout. The Trout takes its name from Schubert's 1817 song about a trout caught by an angler, and it's since become a cornerstone of the chamber repertoire.
On stage, the lineup is Ben Goldscheider on horn, Elena Urioste and Melissa White on violins, Juan-Miguel Hernandez on viola, Tony Rymer on cello, Joseph Conyers on double bass, and Tom Poster on piano. The collective's repertoire leans toward the 19th and 20th centuries, with a strong focus on Brahms and his contemporaries. They've released albums on Chandos Records, including Reynaldo Hahn's chamber music and songs and several Brahms & Contemporaries volumes. Poster also writes new works and arranges the Great American Songbook for the group.
