Exhibition of artwork created by local children, teens, and caregivers through Uplift's community art program, with activities and performances.
Holding Grief: From Firsts to Always opens at The Discovery Center on Friday, November 6, from 5 PM to 7:30 PM. It's an exhibition of artwork created by local children, teens, and caregivers, all of whom have worked through the Uplift Center for Grieving Children's community art program.
The show is part of Uplifting Voices: Art That Speaks, an initiative run by Uplift. The art on the walls comes from Philadelphia youth and the adults who support them, and the evening includes activities and performances alongside the exhibition. It's a public event, and it's free to attend.
If you're not familiar with the organization, the Uplift Center for Grieving Children works with kids and teens in the city who are dealing with loss. This particular show brings together the work they've made through their community art program, so you'll see pieces from different age groups—children, teenagers, and the caregivers who walk alongside them. The title, Holding Grief: From Firsts to Always, points toward the different stages of loss, from those first difficult milestones to the long-term reality of living with it.
