Ancestral witch play by Dreya Weber, with original songs, weaving narratives of three women representing witch archetypes.
Dreya Weber returns to the Walnut Street Theatre with HEXEN, an ancestral witch play that opens at Independence Studio on 3 on Tuesday, January 26, 2027. Weber wrote, directed, and performs the piece herself, and it's told through song and aerial dance. The story weaves together the narratives of three women, each representing a different witch archetype.
It's part historical account, part ancestral legacy, and part imaginative fancy. Along the way, it looks at the demonization of women, the power of reclaiming one's ancestry, and a celebration of the mystical. The songs are original, with credits shared between Weber, Craig Richey, and Alecia Moore—better known as P!nk.
HEXEN plays at Independence Studio on 3, the theatre's intimate third-floor performance space. The studio has long served as a home for adventurous, personal productions, and it's returning here after a hiatus. The venue itself, the Walnut Street Theatre, is America's oldest, founded in 1808.
