A team-based haunted scavenger hunt through historic Philadelphia, exploring ghost stories and haunted locations with a flashlight as the only required kit.
Watson Adventures is running their Haunted Philadelphia Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's one of their seasonal Halloween offerings, and the whole thing kicks off at Washington Square Park, 600 Walnut St. in Old City. It's best played in teams of two to six, and a flashlight is the only piece of kit you'll need to bring.
From there, you work your way through Philadelphia's historic district, using landmarks, cemeteries, and local ghost stories to answer questions along the way. The route follows the city's haunted folklore, with stops and stories tied to figures and places like Ben Franklin, a supposed poltergeist at St. Peter's Church, the Hag of Pine Street, and the legend of City Tavern's burning bride. Along the way, you'll pass Independence Hall, St. Peter's Church, and the former City Tavern site.
Washington Square Park itself is part of the story. For much of the city's early history, it served as a burial ground, holding an estimated 2,000 soldiers who died in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars; its centerpiece is a memorial to the Unknown Soldier. So the starting point is as much a part of the haunt as the rest of the route.
