A concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi's famous Requiem by the choral ensemble VoxAmaDeus at the Perelman Theater.
VoxAmaDeus is bringing Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem to the Perelman Theater on Friday, November 13, 2026. The theater is inside the Kimmel Center at 300 South Broad Street in Center City, and the performance starts at 7 PM.
If you're not familiar with the piece, Verdi's Requiem is one of the most famous choral works written after Mozart's. Verdi composed it in 1874 in memory of the poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, whom he greatly admired and who had died the previous year. It's known for its dramatic, operatic styleโso much so that it was considered unsuitable for liturgical use, though it became a massive hit as a concert piece. The most famous part is the thunderous double-chorus 'Dies irae,' which paints a fiery, awe-inspiring vision of the Last Judgment. It's still one of the most celebrated choral works in the classical repertoire.
VoxAmaDeus is the group taking it on for this performance. The whole thing runs about two hours, including one intermission, so you'll have a break in the middle. It's a Friday night show, which makes it an easy one to fit into a weekend plan.
