Monthly First Friday mixer with jazz pianist Miki Yamanaka, cocktails and light fare, with access to the collection.
Miki Yamanaka leads her trio at The Barnes Foundation on Friday, November 6, as part of the museum's First Friday series. The night is presented in partnership with the Philadelphia Asian American Film Foundation (PAAFF), and it falls during the foundation's annual festival, which runs from November 5 to 15.
Yamanaka is a Japanese-born pianist now based in New York, where she's built an international following as an album artist and bandleader on the city's jazz scene. She's a regular in the West Village, with residencies at Mezzrow and Smalls Jazz Club. For this date, she's joined by bassist Tyrone Allen II and drummer Jimmy Macbride—the same trio that recorded her album Breathe, which came out in August. The two sets run at 6:30 PM and 7:45 PM, so you can catch one or stay for both.
First Friday is the Barnes' monthly after-hours social, and this one comes with cocktails and light fare. Your ticket also gets you access to the collection and the exhibition Noguchi to Asawa: Designing Postwar America. The museum is framing its 2026 program around the United States' 250th anniversary and the many stories that shape American art, and this evening fits right into that.
