Workshop for aspiring authors on finishing a manuscript and navigating self-publishing, from formatting and cover design to ISBNs and sales strategies.
Amira Jennah leads a workshop called Finish Your Book & Get It Published at Walnut Street West Library on Saturday, October 24, at 2 PM. It's an interactive session built for aspiring authors, storytellers, poets, and creatives, and it's part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's programming, which puts on more than 28,000 programs for all ages each year.
The workshop walks through the full path from the finishing touches of a manuscript to self-publishing. It starts with completing the draft, then moves into simplified formatting, cover design, and ISBNs, and finishes with strategies for starting to sell the work. It's a practical run through the steps that usually feel like a black box when you're working alone.
If you've been sitting on a nearly finished draft and aren't sure how to get it across the finish line, this is exactly that kind of session. It's designed for anyone who's written a good chunk of a book but doesn't know what comes after the final period. The focus is on the concrete side of things—formatting, covers, and the logistics of getting a book out into the world—rather than just the writing itself.
