Garage rock trio Bass Drum of Death headlines Johnny Brenda's with support from Philadelphia's Chained Bliss, 21 and over.
Bass Drum of Death play Johnny Brenda's on Tuesday, November 3, with Philadelphia's Chained Bliss opening. It's a headlining set from the Oxford, Mississippi trio, known for raw garage rock energy and a live show that's hard to find anywhere else.
They're touring their sixth record, SIX, and the story behind it is a return to where they started. The band's first two LPs were recorded entirely on GarageBand, and SIX goes back to that same method. Frontman John Barrett and the band—with Jim Barrett on guitar and Ian Kirkpatrick on drums—convened in Barrett's home studio in Nashville to bring the songs to life. Producer Jeremy Ferguson, who has worked with Cage the Elephant and White Reaper, manned the faders across ten snowy days of fine-tuning at his Battle Tapes studio. Their influences run from The Stooges to ZZ Top, and that garage-rock lineage is a good place to start if you're wondering where the sound lands.
Opening the night is Philadelphia's own Chained Bliss, who play rainy-day punk with a sharp edge, threading simple melodies through driving rhythms. They've got a second LP on the way via Stupid Bag Records, so this is a local act with a new record of their own coming soon.
