Concert by the Canadian art-rock and experimental rock brothers Angine De Poitrine, with zouz, at the Franklin Music Hall.
Angine De Poitrine play the Franklin Music Hall on Friday, November 20, with zouz opening. The show starts at 7 PM, and the venue is at 421 North 7th Street in Philadelphia.
If you haven't come across them yet, Angine De Poitrine are twin brothers from Saguenay, Canada. They call what they do "Mantra-rock dada-pythago-cubiste," which is a mouthful of a name for a sound that sits at the crossroads of art rock, experimental rock, and microtonal playing. The band is fronted by Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine.
Their music starts out asymmetrical and dissonant, built on solid drum grooves and complex microtonal guitar entanglements that eventually take on a festive, rock'n'roll exuberance. It's that shift—from the dissonant and the odd to something you can actually move to—that defines the set. The microtonal side means they're playing notes that fall between the standard keys of a piano, which is where a lot of that initial tension comes from before the rock'n'roll side takes over.
