Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. play MilkBoy on Sunday, October 18, 2026, as part of their Survive to Metaverse Tour 2026. Magick Potion opens the night.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the history might. Kawabata Makoto formed the group in 1995 alongside the Acid Mothers Temple Soul Collective, and they put out their first album in 1997 on PSF Records in JapanβThe Wire named it one of the year's best. By 1998, they were already touring the US and Europe. Over the next two decades, the collective grew into a revolving door of collaborators, putting out around 80 albums and working with Gong, Guru Guru, Simeon of Silver Apples, and Nik Turner of Hawkwind, as well as the Occitanian singer Rosina de Peira. On the Japanese side, they've shared credits with Afrirampo, Tatsuya Yoshida of Ruins, Maso Yamazaki of Masonna, Seiichi Yamamoto of Boredoms, and Jun Kuriyama of The Ox.

In 2016, twenty-one years after they started, the lineup shifted and "Next Generation" was added to the name. They're billed as a legendary Japanese psychedelic rock collective, and their live shows run the gamut from cosmic jams to experimental noise. The Philadelphia date is part of the Survive to Metaverse Tour 2026, so it's a stop on a larger run rather than a one-off. The show starts at 7:30 PM at MilkBoy, 1100 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA.
