Actor Nathaniel Parker reads T.S. Eliot's 'The Waste Land' and 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock', directed by Giles Taylor.
Nathaniel Parker brings T.S. Eliot to the Oxford Playhouse on Thursday 18 March 2027, starting at 7:30pm. The evening centres on The Waste Land, which Parker performs alongside The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.
The Waste Land was published in 1922 and remains Eliot's most famous poem, and one of the most influential works of the twentieth century. It's thick with classical and cultural references, and it's widely read as a response to the devastation of the First World War, though it's also full of wit, humanity and a surprising sense of hope. Parker says he first read the poem at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and fell in love with it, and he now shares readings with audiences through his Instagram.
The evening is directed by Giles Taylor, an actor, director, author and classicist who has worked alongside Parker on stages from Stratford and Chichester to London and Broadway. The show is recommended for ages 14 and over.
