Pianist Paul Lewis plays Mozart's piano sonatas together with works by Mendelssohn and Copland in the International Piano Series 2026-2027.
Paul Lewis plays the Sohmen Concert Hall on Thursday 11 February 2027, at 7.30 pm. It's part of the International Piano Series 2026-2027 season, which runs from 3 October 2026 to 29 May 2027 across ten concerts. This one puts Mozart's piano sonatas at the centre, paired with works by Mendelssohn and Copland.
The hall is inside the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, which opened to the public in April 2026 on Woodstock Road in Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. It's a big new addition to the city, housing seven of the university's humanities faculties and the Bodleian Humanities Library alongside performance, screening and exhibition spaces. Lewis's concert falls within the centre's 2027 cultural programme, which runs from January to July and brings together international musicians, artists, choreographers and filmmakers.
That programme includes new work from Cultural Fellows Anoushka Shankar, choreographer Wayne McGregor and the immersive art collective Marshmallow Laser Feast, as well as appearances by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Angela Hewitt. Many of the projects are specially commissioned and developed with Oxford University researchers, looking at connections between the arts, science, technology, the environment and human wellbeing. Lewis's recital is one of ten in the International Piano Series season, which spans from early October to late May.
