Free panel discussion led by gallery director Sarah Wiseman with the artists in the exhibition 'I Do & I Undo' on femininity in art.
Sarah Wiseman Gallery is hosting a panel discussion on Thursday 22 October, part of the group show I Do & I Undo which runs from 8 October to 1 November. The talk is led by the gallery's director, Sarah Wiseman, and brings together six of the artists exhibiting in the show: Bliss Coulthard, Emily Gibbard, Heidi Inez, Erin Rosalie Thomas, Veronica Wells and Anastassia Zamaraeva. They'll be talking about contemporary narratives on femininity in art, so it's a good chance to hear them discuss their work in person rather than just reading the wall text.
The exhibition itself is a broad one, with painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking all under one roof. The artists look at emotion, relationships, identity, grief, sexuality and self-expression, and together they challenge traditional representations of femininity. The title I Do & I Undo comes from the working philosophy of the late conceptual artist Louise Bourgeois, who famously revisited and reworked her piecesโa practice that mirrored her own personal and artistic transformation. The show takes that up, embracing revision, reinvention and the layered nature of identity.
Sarah Wiseman Gallery is a contemporary art space whose programme is shaped by its director, Sarah Wiseman. She's brought in artists like the printmaker and painter Mychael Barratt, the children's author and illustrator Catherine Rayner and the award-winning printmaker Ade Adesina, so the gallery has a track record of showing a wide range of voices. This panel is one of the events that runs alongside the main exhibition, which you can visit any time between 8 October and 1 November.
