Jazz concert by the Will Barnes Quartet with original compositions inspired by folklore and Celtic mythology.
The Will Barnes Quartet play St Giles' Church on Saturday 24 October, with the music starting at 7.30pm. The set is built around Outside the Light, a new collection of original jazz compositions that the quartet has been working on.
What sets this material apart is where it comes from. Rather than drawing on the usual jazz songbooks, Barnes has looked to folklore and Celtic mythology for his starting point. It's a bold way to approach a jazz set — taking those old stories and myths and working them through the quartet's sound — and Outside the Light is the result of that. The evening is a chance to hear these pieces played live, with the quartet performing them as a whole.
