Political commentator Carl Benjamin delivers the second Oakeshott Lecture of 2026, analysing the future of Britain, followed by a public discussion with James Price.
Carl Benjamin is at the Sheldonian Theatre on Wednesday 21 October, the second of the Oakeshott Lectures held there in 2026. He'll be giving a talk titled The Postliberal Future, and he's joined onstage by James Price for a public discussion that follows.
Benjamin is a political commentator who's spent the last few years building a name for himself on the right. He's the founding director of Lotueaters.com and runs the YouTube channel Sargon of Akkad, and he's a philosophy graduate of Birkbeck College, University of London. In this talk, he looks at what he sees as the historic failures of the British centre-right and lays out a postliberal vision for the future of Britain. It's a broad subject, and the discussion with Price will give you a chance to hear it worked through in conversation rather than just as a lecture.
Price brings his own weight to the table. He's an author, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Studies, and a former President of the Oxford Union. He also served as a Senior Special Adviser across five departments in the last Conservative Government, so he's coming to this from inside the machinery Benjamin is critiquing. Between the two of them, you've got a commentator who's made his mark from the outside and a former insider who knows how the levers actually move.
