Political scientist Bjørn Lomborg delivers the 2026 Oakeshott Lecture on evidence-based approaches to climate and poverty at the Sheldonian Theatre.
Bjørn Lomborg opens the 2026 Oakeshott Lectures at the Sheldonian Theatre on Monday 19 October. He's a political scientist, and the lecture is titled How to Make the World Better? Climate, Poverty & Solutions. The whole thing runs for an hour and a half with no interval, so it's one long stretch rather than a talk broken up by a break.
Lomborg's lecture focuses on how to tackle global issues of climate and poverty, and he makes the case for evidence-based approaches to these challenges. It's the first of the Oakeshott Lectures for the year, so it sets the tone for the series. After he's finished, there's a conversation with Winston Marshall, which should open things up for a bit of back-and-forth on the points he's raised.
