Professor Amy Wax delivers the Oakeshott Lecture on young conservatives' discontent, followed by a public discussion with Professor Eric Kaufmann.
Professor Amy Wax is coming to the Sheldonian Theatre on Monday 26 October, as part of the Oakeshott Lectures. The talk is titled Free Our Shaving Cream: Young Conservatives' Discontent, and it's the third lecture of the 2026 series. The Oakeshott Lectures were formerly known as the Scruton Lectures, and they're a regular series of talks held at the Sheldonian.
Wax will be analysing the causes of discontent among young conservatives, and she won't be on her own for the whole thing: the lecture is followed by a public discussion with Professor Eric Kaufmann, so there's a second half that opens it up to a conversation on stage.
It's worth knowing who's behind the podium. Amy Wax is a legal expert and Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, with specialisms in neurology and social welfare. She's a graduate of Yale, Oxford, Harvard and Columbia, and in 2009 she published the monograph Race, Wrongs, and Remedies: Group Justice in the 21st Century. Joining her for the discussion is Eric Kaufmann, a Canadian political scientist, demographer and Professor of Politics at the University of Buckingham.
