Stand-up talk by writer and classicist Natalie Haynes on the monsters of ancient Greek myth, followed by a book signing.
Natalie Haynes brings her talk Irresistible Monster to the Oxford Playhouse on Wednesday 17 March 2027, at 7:30pm. It's a razor-sharp romp through the monsters of ancient Greek myth, from the snaky Echidna to the fearsome Minotaur, and it works by showing that even what we think we know isn't necessarily so. A Cyclops doesn't always have one eye, and Cerberus doesn't start out with three heads.
Haynes is a writer, broadcaster and passionate classicist who's been speaking on the modern relevance of the classical world for fifteen years, on tours spanning several countries and three continents. She's a bestselling author, shortlisted for the Women's Prize, and has written and performed twelve series of the BBC Radio 4 show Natalie Haynes Stands up for the Classics. The Washington Post once called her a 'rock star mythologist'.
