Conversation with artist Marco Brambilla, presented by Professor Peter Boxall, as part of the Utopia Now! conference.
Marco Brambilla is coming to the Schwarzman Centre on Friday 13 November, where he'll be talking about After Utopia in conversation with Professor Peter Boxall. It's a single session, running from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, and it's held in the cinema within the centre.
The talk is part of Utopia Now!, a conference that brings together writers and thinkers from different disciplines to look at the possibility of utopian imagining today, set against a backdrop of social, political and environmental crisis. It's not just a one-off; the whole thing is built around that question, and Brambilla's work sits right at the centre of it. He's provided the conference artwork, so After Utopia is the visual thread running through the whole event.
To give you a sense of the scale of the thing, the conference also features keynotes by Ali Smith, Kiran Desai and Homi Bhabha, which bring literary fiction into dialogue with philosophy and critical theory. Brambilla's session is presented by the Faculty of English, and since it's part of a wider programme, this conversation is one of several ways the conference is tackling the theme. If you're interested in how art and writing can still imagine a better future when things feel this precarious, that's exactly what this is about.
