Oxford Pro Musica Singers play two twentieth-century choral masterpieces, Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir and Duruflé's Requiem, in Exeter College Chapel.
Oxford Pro Musica Singers are at Exeter College Chapel on Saturday 24 October, pairing two choral works from the twentieth century: Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir and Maurice Duruflé's Requiem. Both are performed by the same choir, so the two pieces sit side by side in a single evening.
The chapel is a highly decorative space within the college, known for a big but friendly acoustic that choirs tend to favour. The college itself has a strong literary pedigree, with JRR Tolkien and Alan Bennett among its alumni, and its rooftops hold Anthony Gormley's Iron Man sculpture. The organ is a modern Walker built in the style of a nineteenth-century Cavaillé-Coll, featuring a horseshoe console and a thunder stop.
