Guided tasting of six ciders and perries from top UK craft producers with the Oxford Cider Club.
Oxford Cider Club are hosting their first event at Tap Social Movement on Friday 30 October, a guided tasting called Explore the Ciderverse. It's an intimate one, with six ciders and perries poured over the course of the hour, and the club leading you through them as you go.
Six is a decent number for a single session, and the selection is built to show off a range of styles and varietals rather than sticking to one corner of the map. You'll get both ciders and perries — the latter made from pears — so you'll be tasting the difference between the two side by side. The bottles are sourced from some of the UK's top craft producers, so it's a good way to sample a few different makers in one sitting without having to track them down individually.
As the club's first outing, it's a straightforward introduction to what they're about. The session is guided, so there's someone there to talk you through the styles and the producers behind each pour, rather than just a flight of drinks left to your own devices. If you've never really gone into the cider world beyond the usual suspects, it's a low-stakes way to get a handle on the different varieties and how they differ from one another.
