Beginner-friendly evening to learn and enjoy European folk dances, with no partner required and soft shoes recommended.
European Folk Dance for Fun is back at St Margaret's Institute on Tuesday 20 October, from 8:00 to 10:00pm. It's a small, friendly group, so if you've been wanting to try folk dancing without the pressure of a huge hall, this is a good place to start.
The focus is on European folk dances, taught in a way that's more about enjoying the movement than getting every step perfect. You'll learn a few dances over the course of the evening, and because it's a small group, there's plenty of room to get your bearings before you're thrown into the mix. One of the best bits is that you don't need a partner to join in — you'll be swapping around as you go, so just turning up on your own is fine.
As for what to wear, soft shoes are your best bet. Anything that lets you move easily on a wooden floor without scuffing it up works well, so think gym shoes or something similar rather than hard-soled shoes. If you're a complete beginner, you're in good company; the whole thing is set up to be welcoming, and the small group size means you can take your time with the steps.
