Weekly contact improvisation dance session run by Oxford Contact Dance, suitable for beginners and experienced dancers.
Oxford Contact Dance are running a contact improvisation session at the Oxford University Club on Tuesday 20 October, from 7:00 to 8:00pm. It's part of the club's weekly contact improvisation classes, so if you miss this one, there's another coming up the following week.
If you've never come across contact improvisation, it's a form of dance that's all about the physical point of contact between two people. Rather than following a set of steps or a choreographed routine, you move by listening to the weight, momentum, and balance you share with a partner. It's less about looking a certain way and more about how you respond to the movement as it happens, which makes it quite different from most dance classes you'll find around town.
One of the best things about these sessions is that they're open to everyone. They're suitable for beginners and experienced dancers alike, so you don't need any prior dance experience to join in. Whether you've never stepped foot in a dance studio or you've been practising for years, you'll fit in just the same. It's a low-pressure way to get moving and meet new people in the city.
