Workshop to experiment with block printing and create patterns on fabric, including repetition and overlapping.
Deepwell Arts is running a Block Printing on Fabric workshop at Hunsdon House on Thursday 29 October, from 11.00am to 12.30pm. It's a morning session, so you're in and out before lunch, and it's held at Hunsdon House, 12 Osler Rd in Headington.
The whole thing is about block printing on fabric. You'll be working with blocks to build patterns across your material, and the session focuses on two particular ways of doing it: repetition and overlapping. Repetition is the straightforward part — taking a single block and stamping it over and over to create a consistent, repeating design. Overlapping is where it gets a bit more interesting, as you print one block on top of another to build layers and see how the colours and shapes sit together. Between the two, you can go from a simple, tidy pattern to something much more complex and layered.
It's a hands-on session, so you'll be spending the ninety minutes actually printing rather than just watching. If you've never tried block printing before, this is a good way to get a feel for it without needing to set up a studio at home. You'll leave with whatever you've printed during the morning.
