Tillett Debut Artists concert by the young London string quartet The Neruda Quartet, with Mozart's 'Prussian' and Beethoven's String Quartet No. 6.
The Neruda Quartet play The New Space on Wednesday 28 October, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. It's a double bill of string quartets by Mozart and Beethoven: Mozart's String Quartet No. 22 in Bā major, K. 589, known as the 'Prussian', and Beethoven's String Quartet No. 6 in Bā major, op. 18/6. Both in Bā major, so they sit comfortably together.
The quartet is made up of Adriana Bec and Yiu Hang Leung on violin, Mina Mazur on viola, and Jim Goss on cello. They're a young London-based ensemble formed in 2024 by students of the Royal Academy of Music, and they take their name from Wilma Neruda, a pioneering 19th-century violinist known for her trailblazing career and her advocacy for women in classical music.
They're performing as Tillett Debut artists for the 2026/28 season, a University of Oxford scheme that stages concerts by emerging artists. The appointment has already taken them a fair way from London: they represented the Royal Academy of Music at the First International Orchestral and Chamber Music Symposium in Tianjin, China, and they've recorded for Academy alumnus Elton John.
