Jazz concert with piano by Gwilym Simcock and trumpet by Nick Smart, playing music by Simcock and Kenny Wheeler.
Gwilym Simcock and Nick Smart are playing at Oriel College on Friday 23 October, a jazz night presented by Music at Oxford. Simcock, an internationally acclaimed jazz and classical pianist, is joined by Grammy Award-nominated trumpeter Nick Smart for an hour of jazz with no interval. The concert is part of the Oriel College Visiting Fellow in Music series, and Simcock holds that Visiting Fellowship at the college.
The set draws on music by Simcock himself and by the late Canadian trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, so you'll hear Simcock's own writing alongside Wheeler's. It's a piano and trumpet duo, and the whole thing runs for an hour without a break.

One practical thing to keep in mind: the venue is only accessible via a staircase, so if that's a problem, it's worth knowing before you head over. Tickets are £34 full price, and there are no concessionary tickets available because seating capacity is extremely limited. If you miss out, £10 rush tickets may become available 24 to 48 hours before the event. It starts at 20:00 and finishes at 21:00, with no interval.
