Free exhibition of more than 40 items by the poet Alice Oswald, including rare publications, drawn from New College Library's collection.
Alice Oswald is the subject of an exhibition at New College Library in Oxford, which runs from 1 October 2026 until 28 February 2027. It's a long one, so you've got plenty of time to fit it in.
Oswald is one of Britain's most celebrated contemporary poets, and she's got a deep connection to the college: she's an alumna and an honorary fellow. From 2019 to 2023, she held the position of Oxford Professor of Poetry, the first woman ever to do so. Her work turns to the natural world, classical mythology, and astronomy, and often looks at how poetry plays with other art forms. She's picked up several awards along the way, including the T. S. Eliot Prize, the International Griffin Poetry Prize, and the Ted Hughes Award.
The exhibition is built around the college's own collection. New College Library holds more than 40 items authored by her, including rare and unusual publications, and the display draws on that. It's a good chance to see her work gathered in one place, from the well-known to the harder-to-find.
