Hands-on charcoal workshop to create bold textures and large-scale drawings, inspired by Mike Nelson's exhibition, with materials, a gallery walk and a drink.
Modern Art Oxford is hosting Drawing with Dust on Thursday 22 October, a hands-on workshop that runs from 6:00 to 8:30pm. The whole thing takes place inside the galleries, so you're working right where the art is rather than in a separate studio. The medium is charcoal, and the focus is on bold textures, depth and large-scale drawing — the kind of work that lets you get a bit messy and work on a bigger scale than you usually would at home.
The session is built around Mike Nelson's major new exhibition in the Upper Galleries, and it draws on the industrial themes that run through it. Before you start drawing, there's a guided walk-through of the Upper Galleries, so you can see Nelson's work first-hand and get a feel for the space and the ideas it's playing with. From there, you'll spend the rest of the evening working with charcoal, using those industrial references as a starting point for your own textures and drawings.
