A creative workshop led by Polis Loizou where attendees explore elements of their identity to form an authentic narrative piece, coinciding with the performance of I Was A Teenage Bisexual.
Polis Loizou is running a creative writing workshop at Nottingham Playhouse on Saturday 24 October, from 3pm to 4.30pm. It's part of the 'Queer Up Duck' programme, and it's described as an informal, friendly session. The idea is to take the things that make up your identity — gender, sexuality, culture, and heritage — and use them to build an authentic narrative piece. You don't need to be a writer to join in; it's more about finding your own way into a story than having a polished draft ready.
Loizou is a Cypriot author, playwright, performer, and oral storyteller based here in Nottingham. He's an award-winning writer who has written, directed, and produced a number of one-act shows that have toured the UK fringe circuit. His solo theatrical work includes Mr Fox and You Oughta Be In Pictures, as well as the Arts Council-funded I Was A Teenage Bisexual — the very performance this workshop coincides with. If you've seen that show, this is a chance to see how it came together from the inside; if you haven't, it's a good way to get your feet wet with the kind of storytelling he does.
