Free face-to-face training course for practitioners and volunteers on supporting Black and minoritised survivors of domestic abuse.
Equation is running a one-day course on working with Black and minoritised survivors of abuse at The Nottingham Mechanics Institute on Tuesday 27 October. It's a full day, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, so you'll want to clear your schedule for it.
Equation developed the session to help practitioners and volunteers understand the additional barriers Black and minoritised survivors face when accessing domestic abuse services, and to build more inclusive, accessible responses. Over the course of the day, you'll explore survivors' experiences, identify support strategies and good practice, and consider how services can become more accessible. It's designed for anyone who might come into contact with someone experiencing domestic abuse — practitioners, managers, strategists, commissioners and volunteers alike.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind before you sign up. The session doesn't go into depth on supporting migrant or refugee survivors, so it won't cover legal contexts or the Migrant Victims Domestic Abuse Concession. It also carries a content warning: the training looks at different types of domestic abuse in depth and may be impactful for some. If that sounds like too much, Equation runs an alternative course, Introduction to domestic abuse, which gives a less in-depth overview. Support options are provided during and after the session, and more information is available on their website.

It's held at The Nottingham Mechanics Institute, 3 North Sherwood Street, NG1 4EZ. It's free for those in the Nottingham City and County area, and £55 for anyone coming from outside the area.
