Introductory wine day with twelve wines to taste, a two-course lunch and cheese and biscuits, covering New and Old World wines.
Notts Derby Local Wine School is running its Saturday Introduction To Wine at the Lace Market Hotel on Saturday 7 November, starting at 11:00am. It's their flagship day, and it's built as a full food and wine indulgence rather than just a tasting session. You'll start with a glass of fizz on arrival, then spend the day walking through the world's major wine regions, tasting twelve wines along the way. There's a two-course lunch included, and the day finishes with cheese and biscuits.
The programme weighs New World wines from Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and California against Old World classics from France, Italy and Spain. It covers how wine is made, how to taste it and how to match it with food, with practical tastings running throughout. The school describes itself as part of the Local Wine School Network, which it calls the world's fastest-growing network of independent wine schools, and it runs courses at all levels alongside professional qualifications for anyone looking to start or develop a wine career. It's rated five stars on TripAdvisor and has been featured in The Daily Telegraph and Time Out Magazine.
